Quality waterproof vinyl by Tuff Industries at a friendlier price point. Same manufacturer, same Viewpoint installation quality, same 10-year labour warranty – with real savings per square foot.
Providence is a 60-mil fuzzy-back PVC vinyl membrane manufactured by Tuff Industries – the same company that makes Tufdek. It's sold under Viewpoint's brand name, but the product itself is from Tuff Industries' Econodek line, a well-established waterproof vinyl with nearly three decades of field history across North America.
When Viewpoint installs Providence, you get the same crew, the same surface preparation, the same adhesive application, and the same Tuff-Clad PVC metal drip edge flashing as our Tufdek installations. The difference is in the membrane itself: Providence uses a single-ply construction without the polycarbonate top coat and weft reinforcement that make Tufdek the industry's strongest product.
For many homeowners, that trade-off makes perfect sense – especially on lower decks, covered areas, or projects where budget needs to stretch further.
Providence is a smart choice when your priority is solid waterproof protection at the lowest possible cost. Here are the most common scenarios we see.
You want proper waterproofing and professional installation, but your budget has a firm ceiling. Providence saves roughly $2 per square foot versus Tufdek – on a 300 sq ft deck, that's $600 back in your pocket.
If you're selling your home or managing a rental property, Providence delivers the waterproof protection and clean appearance you need without over-capitalizing on a surface the next owner may eventually replace.
Covered decks, lower-level patios, and north-facing surfaces take less UV punishment. In these conditions, the polycarbonate top coat advantage of Tufdek is less critical, making Providence a logical fit.
Providence's colour palette features neutral earth tones designed to complement virtually any home exterior. The patterns are engineered to hide dirt and grime between maintenance washes.
Providence is manufactured to the same Tuff Industries standards and independently tested by Intertek to ensure consistent quality.

Just like our Tufdek installations, every Providence project comes with two written warranties. The product warranty from Tuff Industries and our labour warranty from Viewpoint.
Issued by Tuff Industries Inc. Covers waterproofing integrity of the Providence membrane against manufacturing defects. With proper maintenance, these membranes typically last well beyond the warranty period.
Issued by Viewpoint Decking. Same labour warranty as our Tufdek installations – full coverage on adhesion, seam work, flashing details, and stair wraps.
Both are quality products by Tuff Industries, installed by the same Viewpoint crew. Here's what's different.

Choosing Providence saves you money on the membrane. It doesn't change anything about how we install it. Every Providence project gets the same Viewpoint treatment.
We're not going to pretend Providence is equivalent to Tufdek. It's not. Tufdek is a better product with superior UV resistance, dimensional stability, and longevity. If your budget allows it, we recommend Tufdek.
But we also know that budget is real. And we'd much rather install a quality Providence membrane with proper preparation, flashing, and workmanship than watch a homeowner go with a cheaper contractor who cuts corners on a Tufdek install. A well-installed Providence deck will outperform a poorly-installed anything.
Where we do push toward Tufdek: high-altitude decks with full southern exposure, second-storey decks above living space, and homes where you plan to stay 15+ years. In those cases, the extra investment genuinely pays for itself.
